Welcome Message from the Chairman

Information and Communication Engineering (ICE, also sometimes called ICT, or IT) is recognized as a powerful tool for socio-economic development. With appropriate policies, supplemented by realistic strategies, it is known to have brought tremendous welfare to people in terms of better access to information, job creation, and enhanced public services through efficient governance and diversification of economic opportunities.
Today, the adaptation and usage of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is increasingly being linked to the national economic development and subsequent human development for the countries of the world. Countries are using ICTs to participate in the international economy, to exploit emerging technologies for the betterment of their citizens, to modernize institutions and markets. Bangladesh, like most developing countries, recognizes the potential of ICTs as an unprecedented lever for economic emancipation as well as an enabler for poverty reduction and human development – both of which are of equal importance.

The philosophy of “Digital Bangladesh” is aligned with the concept of ICE that comprises ensuring people’s democracy and rights, transparency, accountability, establishing justice and ensuring delivery of government services in each door through maximum use of technology-with the ultimate goal to improve the daily lifestyle of general people.

Our Vision is that the Dept. of Information & Communication Engineering be recognized as a national and international centre of excellence for teaching and research in the information and communication technologies. Our Mission is to provide the highest quality education to graduates who will take leadership roles in the information and communication technologies; including Information Systems and Technology, Computer Science and Software Engineering, Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering, and Mathematics and Applied Statistics.
The Bachelor of Engineering in Information & Communication Engineering focuses on the systems development aspects of employment in the information technology profession. Students gain extensive experience in developing information technology to address the needs of modern organizations. Teamwork, project management and communication skills are developed in addition to exploration of the technical and human aspects of information technology and its use.
The Information & Communication Engineering related units covered in the course include Computer Network and Data Communication; Wireless and Mobile Communication; Multimedia Communication; Telecommunication Systems, Networks and Switching; Artificial Intelligence and Neural Computing; Radio and TV Engineering; Network Programming; Computer Architecture and Parallel Processing; Design and Analysis of Signal and Systems; DBMS, Data Warehousing & Data Mining; Antennas and Radio Wave Propagation; Information Theory and Coding; Digital Communication; Cryptography and Network Security; Project Planning & Management; Information System Analysis & Software Engineering; Microwave & Fiber Optic Communication; Satellite Communication and Radar; etc.
The course provides professional education in core areas of network and software engineering and concentrates on the development of analysis, network design, network security, programming skills, communication theory, and wireless communications and on the societal and business context of network and software systems.
In their last two years, students acquire in-depth knowledge of network communications and software engineering as well as a broad coverage of specialist technical subjects such as: network operating systems, ubiquitous computing, real-time control, wireless communications, network and computer security, web design and programming, large scale software systems, embedded systems and RFID technology. It is designed to enable students to commence tailoring the course to suit their own needs after their second year. The course is completed with an industry-oriented engineering project and thesis.
Graduates gain employment in a wide range of businesses and organizations that develop or use IT-based systems. Some graduates work with equipment and software suppliers. Others work with specialist consulting groups.
Some well known careers for our students are Software and Application Programmers, ICT Support Technicians, ICT Managers, Electronics Trades Workers, Computer Network Professionals, Database & Systems Administrators & ICT Security, ICT Business and Systems Analysts, Telecommunication Trade Workers, ICT Sales Assistants, ICT Sales Professionals, Telecommunications Engineering Professionals, Web and Multimedia Designers, Multimedia Specialists and Web Developers, Telecommunication Technical Specialist, Electronics Engineers, ICT Support and Test Engineers, Electronic Engineering Drafts persons, ICT Trainers, and much more. They can also work as Analyst / Programmer, Business Analyst / Systems Analyst, Computer Operators, Consultant, Database Development & Administration, Hardware Engineering, Helpdesk & Desktop Support, Management & Supervisory, Network Engineering, Networks & Systems, Other IT & Telecommunications, Product Management, Project Management, Sales, Security, Software Development & Engineering, Team Leaders, Technical Writers, Telecommunications, Testing & QA, Training, Web Design & Usability, Web Development, etc.
